My first pant suit

I dressed for most church services in the accepted dress of the time: a modest dress or suit complete with hat and gloves and of course stockings and heels. But when we moved to Charlottesville, I began to notice a difference in dress. Informed by the youyng generation of hippies, clothes were becoming more informal and yes more comfortable. First to go were my hats and gloves, followed soon by stockings and garters.

Then even more astonishing were ladies wearing trousers and pant suits. I was intrigued and dying to try this fashion out. But not wanting to offend anyone in our congregation, I asked David if it would be alright if I got a pant suit. He said, “Of course - do what you want.”

So I did, and proudly wore my new pant suit to church. All went well – I thought.

But after the service, David came up to me and said, “You didn’t say it was RED.”
