How we met
Some couples meet through friends and family – some at work – some through a class or social setting. David and I met through cottage cheese. I was a Sophomore at Peabody College in Nashville.
This education division of Vanderbilt University was mostly female. We were next door to the School of Religion at Vanderbilt, which at the time was mostly male. Part of my scholarship to Peabody included working in the school cafeteria. This cafeteria was very different from the fancy Food Courts in today’s Universities. My job was to make cottage cheese salads every evening, then stand behind the counter and serve them. Many of the students at Vanderbilt ate in this cafeteria. I began to notice a tall, handsome young man who very frequently ordered cottage cheese salad. We smiled. After a time we spoke. Finally, he asked me for a date. You know the rest of the story. It was only after we were married that he confessed he never really liked cottage cheese.
