A Teenage Adventure

It was always fun to date Jimmy Ridley. He loved to play jokes on people and he always made you laugh. A year older than me and a year younger than my sister, he used to joke that he was the only boy in Murfreesboro who dated both Gattis girls.

On this particular night I was his date. We had been to the movie and before going to get ice cream, Jimmy suggested we go for a ride around the countryside. This was about as exciting as night life got in Murfreesboro at that time.

It wasn’t long before we were on a deserted country road. The night was pitch black. Tall cedar trees on either side of the road compounded the blackness.

As we were passing over the low Lascassas bridge, a dark form rose up from the back seat of the car.

I screamed and grabbed Jimmy. Wheels turned, tires squeeled and the car veered off the Lascassas bridge.

Fortunately the water the bridge spanned was only a creek and the car stopped before entering the stream.

The dark form was a fellow schoolmate who had hidden crouched on the back floorboard of Jimmy’s car waiting for just such a moment. He had finally gotten back at Jimmy for an earlier joke Jimmy had played on him.

After we all laughed for about five minutes, the three of us pushed the car back up the slight incline and all went together to get ice-cream.
